Two weeks until the big day of WordCamp Kuala Lumpur 2018! We’re excited to announce to you our sixth and final round of speakers!

Tashfia Fareed

Tashfia is a technical writer for a WordPress based products company. She has worked closely with every aspect of WordPress from the very beginning with the aim to contribute to the WordPress community. For many years, She has also been a content writer on WordPress.

Tashfia recently got a bachelors degree in Electrical and Telecommunications Engineering and my free time is spent on reading, traveling and being a gadget enthusiast.

Tan Jin Chi

Tan Jin Chi is a law graduate from University of Essex, United Kingdom. Upon finishing his degree, he joined a legal technology startup in Malaysia and has since fallen in love with technology and picked up programming skills.

He dreams of running his own technology startup in the future, particularly on the application of Artificial intelligence and virtual assistant in everyday household.

For now, he runs a digital agency in Kuala Lumpur, focusing on helping Small Medium Enterprise to digitalise their business. He enjoys automating his client’s workflow as well as building their own, unique online shops.

Edwin Masripan

Edwin Masripan has been developing websites on WordPress since 2008 via his company Laman7. He had worked in corporate sales, developing new strategies to cut through today’s IT market. Eventually, he went back to his passion: building websites.

Sanjay Willie

Sanjay over 20 years in experience with enterprise IT software and solutions. He has pulled cables under desks and designed security solutions for central banks. Been through a wonderful nerdy journey so far. He is passionate about Microsoft solutions and also a committed geek in open source software, both contributing and consuming.

Sanjay is a proud Microsoft MVP in Enterprise Security for his work in the community and was given the recognition by Microsoft in 2009. He is also a frequent public speaker in Microsoft & Open Source conferences, user groups and seminars on the related products and technologies he works with.

He currently runs a business and the focus is deploying fun, simplified and affordable solutions for the clients to empower them and their businesses.

Sanjay loves to share his experiences using and sinking his teeth into bleeding edge solutions and where permissible, contribute to the tech community betterment.

Esther Lee

Esther is a web developer from Egenz.com. Being a web developer for more than 10 years, Esther’s portfolio includes developing auction website, banking and insurance products comparison website.

This is her first time speaking at the WordCamp, by invitation to share about the WordPress Multilingual Plugin (WPML).

Noor Ariff Noor Adnan

Noor Ariff Noor Adnan is the CEO of Rocket Web Sdn. Bhd. He has 18 years of experience in portal development and spent 12 years in developing portals for government sectors.

During the years of working in building sites for government sectors, Noor Ariff Noor Adnan learned about WordPress and used it for 8 years.

How is everyone doing? Here comes the fourth round of WordCamp Kuala Lumpur 2018 speaker announcement! If you missed the previous announcements, you may view them here: Round One, Round Two and Round Three.

Sara Khong

Sara Khong is a food enthusiast. She is a recipe developer, professional cook, food stylist, writer, and author of four cookbooks: Malaysian Meals In 30 Minutes, One Pot Wonders, 3 Ingredient Recipes, and Slow Cooker Recipes.

She writes at a lifestyle portal, JewelPie and her food blog, New Malaysian Kitchen.

Sara received a Bachelor of Law from University of London. Instead of researching on case law, she found a greater passion for researching delicious cuisines.

She writes cookbooks, conducts cooking classes, and consult food brands like Ayam Brand and Marigold.

Dr Hafiz Hanif

A senior lecturer at the Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Malaysia. An inspiring Instructional Technologist by the day, and an avenging (read: novice) web developer (WordPress Dev) at night. Dr. Hafiz Hanif helped the university by building bespoke WordPress themes that accommodate their unique requirements, leveraging the latest tools in web development.

Siew Kam Onn

Siew Kam Onn is a WordPress user for more than 10 years which culminated in his becoming a Happiness Engineer at Automattic.

In his past, he was an auditor, has worked on Oracle and SAP ERP systems and for a brief few months dabbled in Machine Learning, achieving the rank of a Competitions Expert at Kaggle before he decided to use his laptop for other purposes.

As a Happiness Engineer, his main role is literally to engineer happiness for WordPress.com customers from all over the world.

Announcing the WordCamp KL 2018 event schedule

The WordCamp KL 2018 organizing team is excited to announce to you our full event schedule!

Conference Schedule

This year we’ll have 18 sessions, covering a vast range of expertise in a variety of topics. Our speakers will cover topics about marketing, business, WordPress development and of course, blogging.

The sessions are split into 2 tracks, meaning we will have 2 talks going on at the same time. You’re welcome to choose a talk that you’re interested to attend to and move between the event halls to meet new friends!

One of the highlights in this year’s sessions is we’ll have sessions in the Malay language, an effort of the organizing team to bring diversity and some local flavour into the event.

WordCamp Kuala Lumpur Speakers: Round Three

We’re honored to announce the third round of the WordCamp Kuala Lumpur 2018 speakers! If you missed the previous announcements, you may view them here: Round One and Round Two.

Lee Wai Hong

Lee Wai Hong has been using WordPress for more than 10 years. He runs a small web design firm in Kuala Lumpur and has created more than 200 websites.

He is also a former Ketua Pemuda for KLSCAH (Kuala Lumpur & Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall). They did a crowdfunding project within the GE14 called “UnidRabu.com” to fund free bus transportation for voters.

Ivan Kristianto

Ivan Kristianto is a Senior Web Engineer at 10up, a global technology agency serving enterprise clients from various industries.

As part of the team, his focus is mainly in WordPress and React. Ivan is active in the Indonesia WordPress community and has organized and spoken at both meetups and WordCamps there.

Ivan has spent the last 10 years developing web applications, mostly for digital agencies. He loves to explore new web technologies—like AMP, PWA, Service Worker, Docker, and React, and has been a major contributor to some WordPress plugins and WordPress Core.

Prasanth Nadarajah

Prasath Nadarajah is currently working as a WordPress Engineer at Humanmade. He has more than 8 years of experience working with WordPress, including 6 years of enterprise experience.

He previously worked at Automattic, Penkse Media Corporation and 10up. He has also contributed to WordPress Core and been credited in a couple of WordPress releases.

WordCamp Kuala Lumpur Speakers: Round Two

*Drumroll* Here comes our second announcement of WordCamp Kuala Lumpur 2018 speakers! This round we have three speakers to introduce. If you missed the previous announcement, you may view it here.

Suraya Zainudin

Suraya is an independent communications consultant specialising in online content creation and management. She is popularly known as the blogger behind personal finance blog Ringgit Oh Ringgit, where she chronicles her personal finance journey as a Millennial Malaysian.

Aisyah Rozi

Aisyah Rozi is the Operation Manager at Laman7, where she manages a team of graphic designers and web developers. She started out as a self-taught web designer and blogger in her hometown of Shah Alam, and now Aisyah has over a decade of experience in the field of design.

Besides web design, Aisyah studied architecture and worked at a top Malaysian architecture firm. Today, she is focused on design and digital marketing, helping create engaging content and improvements in UX design. 

Lorna Timbah

Lorna is a huge fangirl of WordPress since she discovered it in 2007, further solidifying her love for building on the Web. Her 20 years of back-end development experience consists of LAMP (16 years) and MEAN (5 years, leaning towards AngularJS) stacks, with Cordova added to the mix. She spends her free time teaching coding and tech topics to communities for free, specifically on Google and open source solutions, with a focus on women and youth groups, in hopes of increasing inclusion in the tech industry.

She’s a proud K-pop fan and jams to GOT7, BtoB, WINNER, and 2NE1 (RIP) while she codes.

Other less exciting facts that nevertheless makes her a lot of money: Lorna is a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, Google Cloud Platform consultant, and HRDF Certified Trainer.

WordCamp Kuala Lumpur Speakers: Round One

Since the callout for WordCamp Kuala Lumpur 2018 speakers, the organizing team has received a welcoming response from the community. We would like to thank everyone who submitted an application and we appreciate your enthusiasm in contributing to the WordPress community!

In the next few weeks, we’ll be announcing all speakers for WordCamp Kuala Lumpur 2018. That starts today, with our first round of confirmed speakers.

Justin Kopepasah

Justin is a Senior Web Engineer at 10up. His first experience with computer technologies was in grade school. His love for technology never faded and led to a long-term passion for open source and the World Wide Web.

Having worked with enterprise clients and top-level products in the Web industry, his knowledge of both backend and frontend development has made him a talented full-stack Web engineer.

Justin spends his free time continually learning and growing in his field, but his other hobbies include photography, cooking, disc golf and exploring new places.

M Asif Rahman

M Asif Rahman is a long time WordPress Enthusiast, Serial Entrepreneur, and Tech Evangelist. Since 2004, he has been contributing towards the community and working closely with WordPress. He was the CEO of weDevs, a large WordPress product company, just recently retired.

It’s not just about selling WordPress product, Asif is very well spoken about business in the WordPress industry. Apart from weDevs, he is the founder of ARCom, Analytify, Alo Ventures, WPDeveloper (a WordPress product marketplace) and many more.

Asif proudly appeared in nearly 100 WordCamps all around the world and spoken in over 20 WordCamps.

And most importantly, he is a blessed Dad of two super cute little princesses, and husband of a lovely wife! Though he mostly lives in Orlando, Florida, but he’s originally from Bangladesh.

Interestingly, M Asif Rahman has retired this year by the age of 34. He announced his retirement via a 10,000-word semi-autobiography in HeroPress.

Adrian Oh

Adrian Oh co-founded ecInsider.my (formerly known as eCommerceMILO.com), a content site focused on eCommerce, providing insights, know-how and inspiration with the goal of driving the eCommerce industry forward.

He also co-founded Neowave Solutions, makers of the eCommerce platform webShaper, which empowers merchants to build their own branded stores and sell via multiple channels by connecting to the region’s top eMarketplaces like Lazada, Shopee etc.

In 2017, He founded a new multichannel data platform – Zetpy.com, with the goal of enabling merchants to sell across the region’s Top Marketplaces and utilize the data to scale their operation and business.

He is passionate about building community, having founded MECA (Malaysia Ecommerce Aspiration) – an active Facebook community of eCommerce players, currently with over 5000 members.

A computer science graduate with a deep passion for eCommerce, retail & online payments, he occasionally blogs at adrianoh.com.

Happy 55th birthday to Malaysia!

55 years ago on this day, the Federation of Malay united with Sabah (known as North Borneo then), Sarawak and Singapore to form Malaysia. Though Singapore is no longer a member of the federation since 1965, Malaysia has always fought hard in developing the country for its residents and to gain a worldwide recognition.
